Republican Senator Demands Trump ‘Just Release the Damn Files’ on Epstein

Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) called on President Donald Trump to release all files relating to the case of deceased child sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein.

A Department of Justice memo concluded that Epstein did not have the rumored client list many believed he had. That narrative was fueled in part by Attorney General Pam Bondi, who in February claimed the list was “sitting on my desk right now.” The memo also restated the DOJ’s finding that Epstein committed suicide in a jail cell in 2019.

Those findings have sparked an uproar among Trump supporters, who have long demanded the government release all documents in the case. Trump has dismissed these calls and even went so far as to say that “only pretty bad people” want to keep the Epstein case in the news. The president also called the case “boring.”

On Wednesday’s edition of The Lead on CNN, Jake Tapper aired a clip of Tillis speaking to WBT Radio in Charlotte.

Tillis said:

I have to disagree with the president. I don’t think human trafficking of young teenage girls being exploited by billionaires on a private island is “boring.” I think it’s despicable. And I believe that anybody who had anything to do with it or knowledge of it should be held accountable. So just release the damn files.

The senator has already said he is not running for reelection next year.

Also on Wednesday, Trump was asked by a reporter if he would consider appointing a special counsel in the Epstein case.

“I have nothing to do with it,” the president said before briskly walking away.
