Rick Santorum: ‘I Would Recommend That Donald Trump Take His Security Briefs’
During an appearance on CNN today, former Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum expressed a desire for President-elect Donald Trump to attend his daily intelligence briefings, especially in light of terrorist attacks across the globe.
Speaking to host John Berman, Santorum discussed the latest attack in Berlin, which appears to be related to Islamic terrorism, along with the shooting of a Russian ambassador in Turkey. Berman asked Santorum if Trump was quick on the trigger tying the Berlin incident to jihadists, especially considering that the original person police detained may be the wrong man.
“If it walks like a duck, talks like a duck it’s probably a duck,” Santorum responded. “I don’t think he’s way out in front.”
Related to this, the CNN host brought up that it isn’t clear if Trump took his daily intelligence briefing — it has been reported previously that Trump takes them only occasionally — and asked Santorum if this was something he should delegate.
“No, I would recommend that Donald Trump take his security briefs,” the former Pennsylvania Senator answered. “I don’t know why he’s not.”
He further added, “I will very much encourage him to take those briefs and take them very seriously.”
