S.E. Cupp Slams Sarah Sanders for ‘Playing the Woman Card’ on Gina Haspel: ‘You Should Know Better’
.@secupp on Sarah Sanders playing the “woman card” with the Gina Haspel nomination: “You should know better than to pick up the left's talking points and use our political identities as a weapon.” https://t.co/H8WefQSbw4

S.E. Cupp is not impressed to see Sarah Huckabee Sanders use left-wing identity politics in order to object to the scrutiny that surrounds President Trump‘s nominee for CIA Director.
Gina Haspel‘s nomination is facing significant challenges because of her past involvement with the CIA’s controversial “enhanced interrogation” program. As Cupp reviewed Haspel’s defenders and opposition on Monday night, the conservative commentator ripped the critics who insist that Haspel’s confirmation wouldn’t do anything to advance women in America.
“The Left likes to have it both ways, telling us earnestly and often that we do in fact need to count women in key jobs because we bring important perspectives to boardrooms, Congress and so forth. But electing the first woman president or appointing them to top posts only seems meaningful if they support liberal viewpoints.”
However, Cupp noted that Sanders played “the woman card” herself when defending Haspel over the weekend:
There is no one more qualified to be the first woman to lead the CIA than 30+ year CIA veteran Gina Haspel. Any Democrat who claims to support women’s empowerment and our national security but opposes her nomination is a total hypocrite
— Sarah Sanders (@PressSec) May 5, 2018
“That’s not how any of this works,” Cupp said, “but it’s also the kind of thing conservatives rightly mock and criticize liberals for doing all the time.”
From there, Cupp said the debate on Haspel should stay focused on her qualifications, and she also explained why criticizing Haspel’s policies is not hypocritical like Sanders says it is.
“You should know better than to pick up the left’s talking points and use our political identities as a weapon,” said Cupp, before adding “then again, just look at who your boss is.”
