Watch Sarah Sanders Awkwardly Duck Question on Whether Russia Has ‘Free and Fair’ Elections
White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders just did a serious bob and weave to evade saying that Russia holds rigged, sham elections.
Politico‘s Matthew Nussbaum asked Sanders during a press briefing Tuesday whether the White House believes the election in Russia was “free and fair.”
“Look, in terms of the election, we’re focused on our elections,” Sanders said. “We don’t get to dictate how other countries operate. What we do know is that Putin has been elected in their country and that’s not something that we can dictate to them how they operate.”
“We can only focus on the freeness and fairness of our election, something we 100 percent fully support and something we’ll do everything we can to protect so that bad actors don’t have the opportunity to impact them in any way,” she added.
The press corps zeroed in on Russian affairs after President Donald Trump bragged about having “a very good call” with Putin about his election win.
“And you said election meddling didn’t come up in the call,” Nussbaum said. “I’m curious, did the recent poisoning in the United Kingdom come up in the call?”
“I don’t believe that was discussed in today’s call,” Sanders replied.
