Sarah Sanders Refuses to Say if Trump Admits Access Hollywood Tape is Real
Even more than usual, it seemed that the White House Press Corps and Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders got into a number of tense exchanges on Monday. One such sequence in the daily briefing centered on President Donald Trump’s slur against Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) — whom he referred to as “Pocahontas” during an event honoring Native American code talkers.
Another contentious topic was the infamous Access Hollywood tape. A New York Times report out Saturday claims that Trump is now denying that tape’s authenticity (after already admitting it was genuine on the night it was made public.)
Early on in the briefing (in a portion not shown above), Sanders was asked if Trump accepts the authenticity of the footage. The Press Secretary would not answer, sidestepping the question by saying only that Trump hasn’t changed his position and “questions the media’s reporting” on the subject.
Later, during an exchange with CNN’s Jeff Zeleny featured in the clip above, Sanders was pressed on the subject.
“Look,” Sanders said. “I said that [Trump] already addressed it, and that we didn’t have any updates on that. I said what he didn’t like and what he found troubling were the accounts that are being reported now.”
Zeleny followed up, asking what accounts are being reported now that weren’t being reported last year.
The Sanders reply was as terse as it was obtuse.
“The ones that are current that he’s questioning.”
