SC Dem Leader Backpedals On Nikki Haley Comment: ‘She Should Go Back To Being Accountant,’ Not India
Appearing on MSNBC’s Jansing & Co. this morning, South Carolina Democratic leader Dick Harpootlian backpedaled on his controversial comments that he hopes that in the next gubernatorial election Gov. Nikki Haley (R-SC) is sent “back to wherever the hell she came from.” When pressed by MSNBC to defend his remark, Harpootlian claimed he meant that she would be sent back to her previous profession, and not to her ancestors’ country as many have interpreted the remarks to mean.
“I’m the grandson of immigrants,” Harpootlian began his explanation to host Chris Jansing. “She’s from Bamberg, South Carolina, where she was an accountant in her parents’ clothing store called Exotica.”
“All I’m suggesting is she needs to go back to being an accountant in a dress store, rather than being this fraud of a governor that we have,” he concluded.
