Scott Jennings Mocks Democratic Guest: ‘I Don’t Even Know What You Do for a Living’
CNN commentator Scott Jennings roasted Democratic operative Julie Roginsky, stating that he doesn’t know what her job is.
On Wednesday’s edition of CNN NewsNight, the panel discussed President Donald Trump’s deployment of the National Guard to Washington, D.C., which Jennings wholeheartedly supports. The president has said that crime in the nation’s capital is so out of control that federal action is warranted. That includes Trump taking over the Metropolitan Police Department under the D.C. Home Rule Act, which allows the president to do so for 30 days during emergencies, unless Congress votes to extend that timeframe.
“I think in Washington, D.C., you’re gonna have to have substantial reductions in violence, substantial reductions in murder, substantial reductions in carjackings, and people are generally gonna feel like they can walk around and not be under threat all the time,” Jennings said. “Will it be solved in 30 days? Probably not, but they’re already making substantial progress. They’ve had over 100 arrests since August the seventh, when he first brought this up.”
Roginsky responded by bringing up the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, 2021. Since Trump deployed soldiers and additional federal law enforcement officers to D.C. under the pretext of fighting crime, Democrats have noted that Trump declined to call up the National Guard as the Capitol was under siege that day. The president “gleefully” watched the violence unfold on television, according to Trump’s former White House communications director.
“I guess I’m old enough, Scott, to remember when you were appalled as the rest of us were on January 6th when he wouldn’t–” Roginsky began before Jennings interrupted.
“Because January 6th happened, should we not enforce the law today?” said Jennings, an adviser to Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY).
Here is the rest of their exchange:
ROGINSKY: Excuse me.
JENNINGS: Do you want murders today? January 6 equals no enforcement of–
ROGINSKY: No.
JENNINGS: This is a silly argument.
ROGINSKY: Let me finish before you make a point about a silly argument.
[CROSSTALK]
ROGINSKY: Silly is you sitting down with Mitch McConnell over Chick-fil-A and lamenting how Donald Trump was putting all of you, including Mitch McConnell, in harm’s way. But I guess now you’re–
JENNINGS: I wasn’t in harm’s way. I was in Louisville.
ROGINSKY: No, no, you’re then boss, your friend Mitch McConnell certainly was. But you know–
JENNINGS: January 6th was a bad day.
ROGINSKY: Can I finish?
JENNINGS: Murders are also bad.
ROGINSKY: Can I, can I finish?
ABBY PHILLIP: Scott, can you just let her finish?
JENNINGS: She wants to come out here and take potshots at me, I’m not gonna allow it.
ROGINSKY: Scott, Scott–
JENNINGS: It’s a stupid argument and I’m not gonna allow it.
PHILLIP: Scott, just let her finish.
ROGINSKY: Scott, I know you’re–
PHILLIP: I don’t even know that we’ve even heard the argument.
[CROSSTALK]
ROGINSKY: Scott, I know you’re thirsty for that seat, but let me finish.
JENNINGS: Again, you allow this every night. You allow it every day.
PHILLIP: Let’s just let her finish, please.
ROGINSKY: Listen, I know you’ve got–
[CROSSTALK]
JENNINGS: What are you thirsty for? Some kind of relevance out here?
ROGINSKY: Well no, actually, Scott, I’m quite–
JENNINGS: I mean, I don’t even know what you do for a living.
ROGINSKY: Really? I elect a lot of Democrats. But let me finish my thought here, please. Can I just finish what I was about to say, which is that on January 6th, [Trump] could have deployed the National Guard. He chose not to. Now today, because somebody named Big Balls got beat up, allegedly, he wants to deploy the National Guard to a place that has had a 30-year low in violence. And we all know that he’s doing this because it’s a power grab. He could have done this when this district was actually in danger on January 6th. But he didn’t. And I think that’s what’s so offensive. He talks about backing the blue. He talks about law enforcement. He didn’t give a damn, Scott. And you agreed, back on January 6, he didn’t give a damn about those police officers and about the safety of people in Washington, D.C. Today, because he wants a power grab, he’s doing this despite the fact that every statistic shows that Washington, D. C. has not been safer in the last 30 years.
Shortly after taking office on Jan. 20 for the second time, Trump pardoned about 1,500 defendants in connection with the storming of the Capitol.
