SE Cupp Calls Out Trump for Snubbing McCain After News Senator Stopped Treatment: ‘It’s Shameful’
S.E. Cupp started off her new CNN show by calling out President Donald Trump for his lack of a single mention of war hero Sen. John McCain in recent days despite his busy schedule of “watching Fox News” and tweeting.
Unfiltered, which first started on HLN, moved to CNN beginning August 25th.
In the first few minutes of the show, the conservative-leaning host wasted no time lambasting Trump for not even sending a cursory “thoughts and prayers” to McCain in the wake of the news the longtime senator plans on ending treatment for his aggressive brain tumor.
“The president has been very busy. On Twitter that is,” Cupp began. “In the past 48 hours, President Trump has taken time out of his busy schedule of watching Fox News to bash the FBI, his own attorney general, Jeff Sessions, Crooked Hillary [Clinton], Bob Mueller and his gang of 17 Angry Dems and the fake news media.”
She continued with a laundry list of other things that Trump has been talking about, including his praise of Sen. Lindsey Graham who praised him, a shoutout to Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, and his regards to North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un.
She then stressed that absent from that long and colorful list of mentions was “Senator John McCain whose family announced on Friday that he is ending medical treatment for a brain tumor he’s been battling the past year.”
“That’s right. Not one tweet of support for his family. Not a single mention of the war hero and patriot who’s given decades of his life to public service. Not even a canned thoughts and prayers, nothing,” Cupp noted before concluding, “Here’s the deal. It doesn’t get any smaller or pettier than that and it’s shameful.”
UPDATE: Shortly after the show aired, Vice President Mike Pence tweeted out a message to Sen. John McCain and his family.
Trump still has not.
