Self-Proclaimed Fascist Raises $24K After Claiming He Was Fired Over Intense Mehdi Hasan Debate

A man who openly identified as a “fascist” during a political debate with Zeteo founder Mehdi Hasan has raised over $24,000 on GiveSendGo after claiming he was fired following his appearance for his political beliefs.

The man, who identified himself only as Connor, appeared on an episode of Jubilee’s YouTube debate series Surrounded for an episode published Monday in which Hasan, a progressive commentator, would debate 20 “far right conservatives.”

Connor sat across from Hasan for the second topic of discussion, whether President Donald Trump was defying the Constitution. The issue quickly fell by the wayside as Connor expressed his views.

“Quite frankly, if Trump is anti-constitution, good,” Connor said, before declaring his belief in “autocracy” but adding that he was not a Trump supporter but claimed to be a Catholic.

After quoting Nazi political theorist Carl Schmitt and expressing admiration for Spanish dictator Francisco Franco, Hasan pressed the man on whether he was “a fan of the Nazis” and on whether he condemned the Nazi regime’s persecution of Jewish people.

Connor responded: “I think that there was a little bit of persecution and stuff like that, which is bad.” He also condemned the Nazis’ treatment of the Catholic clergy.

Stunned, Hasan remarked: “We may have to rename this show, because you’re a little bit more than a far-right Republican.”

Connor smiled: “Hey, what can I say?”

“I think you can say, ‘I’m a fascist,’” Hasan said. The man laughed and said: “Yeah, I am.”

The conversation with Connor soon shut down after Hasan said he did not “debate fascists.” After the video went live, however, internet users sought to identify Connor.

By late Monday, Connor launched a fundraiser claiming that he had been “subsequently” fired from his job after the appearance and wanted to raise an emergency fund while he sought new work.

“Unfortunately voicing fully legal traditional right wing political views results in real consequences. This is cancel culture and political discrimination on full display,” he wrote on the page.

Within 24 hours, the page exceeded its target of $15,000 and raised over $24,000.
