Senate Hearing Goes Off The Rails As Amy Klobuchar Bites Back At Ted Cruz’s Jabs: ‘Taking More Than His Time To Yell At Me!’
A Senate hearing on Wednesday stalled out for a moment as Sens. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) clashed over the legality of nationwide injunctions filed by judges against President Donald Trump and his agenda.
At a Senate hearing focused on “exploring legislative solutions to the bipartisan problem of universal injunctions,” multiple colleagues tried coming in between Cruz and Klobuchar. Cruz claimed at Wednesday’s hearing that injunctions imposed on pieces of Trump’s agenda, limiting executive action based on current law, are an “abuse of power” and politically motivated.
Klobuchar defended actions taken by judges, accusing the president of violating the Constitution.
“The only reason there’s all of these injunctions, Sen. Cruz,” Klobuchar said during her committee time, following Cruz, “is because he’s violating the Constitution. Why would Trump appoint judges who —”
“Why don’t you file them in red districts?” Cruz asked.
“Sen. Cruz,” Sen. Ashley Moody (R-FL) said, attempting to shut down the debate before it happened.
“What did you just say?” Klobuchar asked Cruz.
“Why don’t you file them in red districts? Why are the Democratic attorneys general seeking out left-wing —” Cruz began as both Moody and Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) both jumped in.
As Moody called a “point of order” and told Klobuchar to resume her time, Cruz jumped back in.
“Sen. Moody, we have debates on this committee. They occur regularly,” Cruz said.
“Let’s let her have her time and we’ll get back to you, Sen. Cruz,” Moody said.
“It’s so exciting to be following Sen. Cruz once again,” Klobuchar said, citing her past scuffles with Cruz.
“Excuse me?” Moody asked, confused by the comment.
Klobuchar explained she and Cruz have a history of going back and forth.
Before moving on, Klobuchar declared, “I will take more than my time since he’s taking more than his time to yell at me.”
