‘Some People Need a Shock Collar!’ John Kennedy Rips Reporter for Calling Charlie Kirk’s Suspected Killer’s Text Messages ‘Touching’

Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) tore into a reporter for describing text messages sent by Charlie Kirk’s suspected killer as “touching.”

Kennedy joined Fox News’ Laura Ingraham on The Ingraham Angle on Tuesday and suggested shock collars for some reporters after sitting and listening to ABC Chief National Correspondent Matt Gutman.

In his report, Gutman called messages sent by 22-year-old Tyler Robinson to his romantic partner “touching” and “intimate,” sparking major backlash from critics.

Robinson has been charged with the murder of Kirk, who was shot and killed during an event at a Utah college campus last week.

On Tuesday, Kennedy slammed Gutman and said his report reminded him of something his “dog would bring up.”

“Once again, some people some people needs a shock collar. Touching? The guy just murdered another human being. And he is talking about it to his love interest,” the senator said. “I mean it reminded me of something my dog would bring up, touching? The guy murdered a human being. You know, I try to be tolerant of other points of view I really do. That wasn’t touching and no fair minded person can call it touching.”

Kennedy told Ingraham he believes part of the problem in the wake of Kirk’s death is social media lowering the “cost” of being a jerk, though the senator admitted he doesn’t know the solution to this problem.

“Some of this is the fault of the media. A lot of it is the fault of social media, Laura, in my opinion. I mean, let’s face it, social media has lowered the cost of being appear a-hole,” he said. “People do things on social media that they would never do to each other’s face. And it’s become just rage bait.”

Gutman took to X on Wednesday morning, telling followers that he was only trying to “underscore the jarring contrast” between Robinson the killer and Robinson the intimate partner.

“I deeply regret that my words did not make that clear,” he added.

“But let there be zero doubt here: I unequivocally condemn this horrific crime and the pain it caused Charlie Kirk’s family, those who were forced to witness it at UVU, and the millions of people he inspired.”
