Stelter: Trump Called CNN Control Room to Make Sure We Saw Interview with Ex-Girlfriend
If you want an idea of just how much Donald Trump is invested in the kind of coverage he gets, CNN’s Brian Stelter revealed earlier today that Trump actually contacted the network behind-the-scenes this morning.
After The New York Times ran a piece about Trump’s past unpleasant encounters with women, one of the women interviewed––an ex-girlfriend of Trump’s named Rowanne Brewer Lane––declared on Fox & Friends this morning that the paper “twisted” her words and took her completely out of context.
This is what Trump did immediately afterwords, per Stelter:
“Only a few minutes after that interview on Fox this morning… Trump called into CNN’s New Day control room… and he said he wouldn’t go on air, but he wanted to make sure the producers of New Day had seen the interview on Fox on the rival network.”
Both he and Ashleigh Banfield were kind of amazed that a presidential candidate called into a newsroom to, as Stelter put it, “try and manipulate coverage.”
