Stephen A. Smith Says Biden Farewell Speech Just Made Him ‘Sad’: ‘Silence or a Simply Goodbye Would Suffice’
Stephen A. Smith offered a less than stellar review of President Joe Biden’s farewell speech, telling NewsNation’s Chris Cuomo it just made him “sad.”
Smith joined Cuomo and Bill O’Reilly on Wednesday to react to Biden’s speech in which he warned that an “oligarchy is taking shape” in the country just days before President-elect Donald Trump is inaugurated.
Smith argued “not a lot of Americans” were very interested in hearing from Biden and they’re ready to move on from his four years in office and what they have brought.
“I was sad. Of course, the president is entitled, and he should give a farewell speech. There is no question about that,” Smith said. “But different times invade us all, and when you see the times that we live in, sometimes you see something, and you just say, ‘Silence or a simple goodbye would suffice.'”
Biden, Smith continued, was meant to be a “transitional” president and his policies regarding the southern border and more have created a “mandate more against [him] than necessarily for Donald Trump.”
“When we see what transpired, what we’ve witnessed, what has transpired over the last year plus. He was supposed to step away. He was supposed to be a transitional president, and you didn’t do that. You decided that you wanted to stay in the race, and then you got exposed because you showed up on a debate stage June 27, and you were not what people on the left have purported you to be,” Smith said.
Biden’s influence, he added, has simply “faded.”
“Unfortunately there’s not a lot of Americans that were interested in hearing what he had to say tonight,” Smith said. “And that’s sad.”
