The Daily Show Turns CNN Guest’s ‘BBL’ Slip Into Trump Bill Takedown: ‘Mostly A**!’
President Donald Trump’s so-called “big, beautiful bill” became late-night fodder on The Daily Show after correspondent Ronny Chieng seized on a CNN guest’s unfortunate mix-up that handed the Comedy Central crew a punchline on a silver platter.
Chieng used an slip on CNN from public radio host Roben Farzad – who mistakenly referred to Trump’s BBB (Big, Beautiful Bill) as “BBL” (short for the cosmetic surgery procedure, Brazilian butt lift) – to unload on the president’s newest legislative pitch.
After musing that journalists were going along with Trump’s branding for his sweeping tax and spending bill, Chieng ran back the clip of Farzad.
“Share your screen right now! Right now, share it, or this interview is over.” Chieng cracked as the clip finished.
“I love how flustered he got after that,” he continued. “‘It’s, uh, it’s the BBL. Oh, sorry, sorry, I mean butts. I mean, I’m sorry, I mean, I mean, big juicy asses.’ Now, for those who don’t know… A BBL stands for Brazilian butt lift. It is a procedure that some women get to enlarge their posteriors, and it’s quite popular with Instagram ass models, or so I’m told.”
He then leaned into the error: “After months of negotiating last night, Republicans stayed up all night and passed the ‘big, beautiful bill.’ And maybe BBL was a better name, because this bill is thick and mostly ass.”
The bill in question passed the House Thursday and carries massive implications for American social policy and the federal deficit. It slashes Medicaid, cuts $290 billion from food assistance, and extends Trump’s 2017 tax cuts, all at a cost of roughly $4 trillion over a decade.
“The only way this could be more cartoonishly mean to poor people is if it said Bob Cratchit has to work on Christmas Day,” Chieng said, as an image from The Muppet Christmas Carol film flashed up behind him.
