The Five Takes On Jay Z’s Harsh Zimmerman Comments: ‘Misguided’ Or ‘Absolutely Legitimate’?

Thursday afternoon, Fox News’ The Five tackled Jay Z‘s recently released video interview, in which he calls George Zimmerman a “fucking mall cop” and describes how “angry” he was after the verdict was announced. For the most part the show, which apparently did not get the memo about the rapper’s dropped hyphen, took it surprisingly easy on Jay Z, calling his comments “absolutely legitimate” and “very sincere.”

“I think what he’s saying is absolutely a legitimate opinion,” Greg Gutfeld began by saying, even though “a lot of people disagree with it.” He added that the real divide on racial issues “is not on skin color, but on skin thickness… people who can frankly talk about race and not whine and whine incessantly.” It was unclear into which category he believes Jay Z would fall.

Bob Beckel risked getting himself in a bit of trouble, at least according to the winces around the table, when he advised “liberal blacks and conservative blacks” to sit down together and discuss these issues–“no honkies at the table.”

“Jay Z seems very sincere to me,” Dana Perino said. “I did not see that kind of sincerity when he took the pleasure trip to Cuba.” At the same time, she said, “I can’t help but wonder if this is so misguided when you look at the fact there was a trial, there was a jury, there was the conviction that they didn’t like, but there was a trial by a jury.”

Without exactly accusing Jay Z of anything directly, Eric Bolling wrapped up the conversation by asking “Who is perpetrating racism in America? is it whites or is it the race-baiters?”
