The Latest Way Obama Wants To Kill Your Grandparents? Hyperthermia!
Well, the Democrats and Republicans in the House are arguing again and you know what that means: somebody is coming to kill your grandparents. In a lovely echo of last year’s death panel rumors, Republican Rep. Paul Brown of Georgia used his time to debate the proposed energy reform legislation by positing that it would lead to many of our country’s old people dying of hyperthermia. Clearly they need to stop holding the bi-weekly Congressional screenings of Logan’s Run.
Rep. Brown’s theory was that new legislation would lead to an energy tax too high for old people to pay for air conditioning. This would, in turn, lead to higher rates of hyperthermia with seniors’ bodies getting too hot and then, eventually giving out.
While prohibitively high energy taxes are a genuine concern, can we please call a moratorium on using dead old folks as a political debate tactic? It’s silly and manipulative and the phrase “Dead Grandparents Card” isn’t nearly as catchy as something like “Race Card.” Besides, we all know what the real threat facing our nation’s seniors is.
