‘Trump at His Worst’: Geraldo Blasts President’s ‘Scripted’ Ambush of Zelensky

Geraldo Rivera blasted President Donald Trump’s contentious and nationally televised face-off with Volodymyr Zelensky as “scripted” and his former friend “at his worst.”

Trump’s one-time friend told NewsNation’s Connell McShane that the commander-in-chief “ambushed” Ukraine’s president in a spectacle he partially blamed on Vice President JD Vance.

Hours after Trump and Vance characterized Zelensky as an ungrateful warmonger in the Oval Office, Rivera called Trump a “bully.”

“I was so embarrassed by it,” Rivera said. “I just could not believe what I was seeing. It was President Trump at his worst, President Trump as an ill-mannered bully insulting a war hero.” Rivera continued:

This was an ambush. They wanted to have him in a place where they could humiliate him. And what role, indeed, did the Vice President JD Vance play? You know, a disrespectful neophyte who chips in, you know, what was he even doing? Why did President Trump need him for the photo op? I think that this seemed almost scripted by JD Vance and people, you know, similar ilk. It really was something that was shameful in many ways. And I think people will die.

People will die as a result of this catastrophe because there won’t be the aid flowing, I believe, as necessary. This will interfere with real life. This wasn’t just theatrics. This was policy being acted out. I believe this whole thing was scripted by the Trump administration. And I think that they went in there with the intent of making Zelensky look bad.

Rivera concluded that Trump and Vance not only intended to humiliate Zelensky but that they used the fact English is not his first language against him.

“He’s not that fluent in English, right?” he said. “It’s almost like he has a delay, you know, before you understands, and he tries to make a point and sometimes he’s clumsy.”
