Trump Border Czar Bows to El Salvador, Claims They Have ‘Full Authority’ Over US Regarding Return of Migrant

Not long ago, the United States was considered a superpower, holding immense political and economic sway over its fellow nations.

Well, that time is no longer — or at least that appears to be an absurd conclusion reached by Trump Border Czar Tom Homan during a Tuesday afternoon appearance on Fox News.

At issue, of course, is the strange story of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, the El Salvadoran man who was denied due process before his arrest and deportation and imprisonment into an El Salvadorian prison. The Supreme Court voted unanimously that the Trump administration was legally obligated to “facilitate” and “effectuate” Garcia’s return. President Donald Trump appears to be openly ignoring the highest court’s ruling, raising serious questions about the degradation of checks and balances and a constitutional crisis.

Fox News anchor Sandra Smith asked her guest, “Tom, how do you respond to these Democratic lawmakers, including  [Senator Chris] Van Hollen, who say they’re going to now ask for a meeting with the president there in El Salvador, they’re gonna travel there and demand his release.”

“Well, good luck with that,” Homan replied before agreeing with White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, who he said was “exactly right” in her mocking of media coverage that labels Garcia as a “Maryland Man” and not an undocumented or illegal immigrant.

“Every time I read a story about this, it’s Maryland Father, Maryland Father,” Homan said. “They don’t mention he’s a member of MS-13, who is a designated terrorist group, one of the most violent gangs in the world. They don’t mention that he is an MS-13 member. They don’t mention he’s an El Salvadoran citizen being held by the country of El Salvador.” Worth noting that a Federal Court found the evidence supporting the claim that Garcia is a member of MS13 to be thin at best.

To be clear, Mr. Abrego Garcia has never been charged with — let alone convicted of — being a member of the gang. However, during his deportation proceedings, some evidence was introduced that he belonged to MS-13, and judges decided it was enough to keep him in custody while the matter was resolved.

“El Salvador makes that decision,” Homan added, insisting that the United States federal government, who appears to have a contradictory agreement with the tiny Central American nation to imprison undocumented migrants sent without due process.

“Now the courts are saying we have to facilitate? We’ll facilitate, but El Salvador has full authority on this,” Homan concluded, arguing again that the United States has zero power over the small nation who is hosting individuals sent to it by the United States, one of whom needs to get due process, according to the highest court in the nation.
