Trump Credits ‘Terrible’ Mainstream Media for Charlie Kirk Coverage and Admitting ‘This Can’t Be Allowed To Happen’
President Donald Trump said on Friday that even “terrible” mainstream media organizations are sensitive to coverage and rhetoric around the killing of Charlie Kirk.
Trump joined Fox & Friends on Friday morning where he revealed, “with a high degree of certainty,” that a suspect in Kirk’s shooting had been apprehended. He also named Memphis as the next city he’s planning on a federal crime crackdown in.
Fox & Friends co-host Lawrence Jones noted in the Trump interview that Utah has the death penalty and many believe Kirk was killed over his conservative opinions. The Turning Point USA founder was shot and killed on Wednesday at an event at a Utah college campus.
There is the death penalty in Utah and I do know this is gonna be a federal case and there’s many of us who believe that Charlie was targeted because of his political ideology. Yeah, what’s gonna happen to this guy?” Jones asked.
Trump said he hopes the suspect is found guilty and faces the death penalty. He then praised Kirk as a guy who everyone liked, even among those who disagreed with his politics.
“He worked so hard and so well,” Trump said. “Everybody liked him. I’ve been watching, even the left is having a hard time.”
He then referenced MSNBC analyst Matthew Dowd reportedly being fired after he theorized that Kirk’s own rhetoric led to his death. He also suggested a supporter may have fired a gun off in celebration.
“A terrible guy, a terrible human being. But they fired him. I hear they’re firing other people,” Trump said.
He then blasted “terrible” media outlets like MSNBC and ABC, but said even they know that political violence and promoting political violence “can’t be allowed to happen.”
“We’re talking about radical left… horrible channels like MS, I always go with DNC because it’s somehow affiliated with the Democrat National Committee, so, you know, it’s a little statement you make. But MSNBC, NBC, ABC, CBS, they’re all terrible, absolutely terrible and unfair. But even they have been giving it sort of like, this can’t be allowed to happen.”
