‘Trump Was Not In Control of Anything’: Nicolle Wallace Calls Putin ‘The Alpha’ at Alaska Summit

MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace said Friday that “[Donald] Trump was not in control of anything” and that Russian President Vladimir Putin was “the alpha” after their meeting and subsequent presser in Anchorage, Alaska.

“Clearly, Trump was not in control of anything,” she said. “Putin was the alpha all day long, from Trump holding on his plane and waiting for him like a middle schooler waiting for their first date, to the red carpet that rolled out, the choreography.”

Here, Wallace is referring to the two presidents’ greeting on the tarmac of Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, when Trump clapped as Putin approached on a red carpet, flanked by U.S. fighter jets.

“I went to dozens of foreign trips with the president,” she continued. Wallace was the former White House Communications Director under former President George W. Bush.

“It is very rare to have a red carpet, and then an ascent to a platform, and then a walk down the stairs into a limo together. I won’t say it’s never happened, but it’s exceedingly rare to the point where I can’t think of it ever happening before,” she concluded.

At the presser post-meeting, Trump admitted a deal on a ceasefire in Ukraine was not finalized, saying, “We didn’t get there, but we have a very good chance of getting there,” adding that the two leaders would “hopefully” meet again soon.
