Tulsi Gabbard Says Obama Could Face Criminal Charges as She Alleges ‘Treasonous Conspiracy’ Against Trump
Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard did not close the door on the possibility of former President Barack Obama facing criminal charges over what she’s describing as a “treasonous conspiracy” against President Donald Trump.
Gabbard joined Fox & Friends Weekend on Saturday morning to discuss a declassified report she released on Friday which alleges that officials in Obama’s administration “manufactured and politicized intelligence to lay the groundwork for what was essentially a years-long coup” against Trump.
“No matter how powerful, every person involved in this conspiracy must be investigated and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. The integrity of our democratic republic depends on it,” Gabbard wrote on X, saying she is referring documents to the Department of Justice.
On Saturday, Gabbard alleged that during the 2016 presidential election, officials painted a different picture publicly than privately when it came to allegations of Russian interference in the election.
“The intelligence community assessed — and this is what the documents detail — essentially Russia doesn’t have the tools, the capability, or the intent to try to change the outcome of the US presidential election,” she said.
She implicated then-President Obama and other intelligence officials in what she described as a “treasonous conspiracy” meant to paint Trump in a negative light. Gabbard claimed the probe into connections between Trump and Russia was based on manufactured evidence.
“One day later President Obama calls a meeting of his National Security Council, his top officials, to be held on what they call a sensitive topic and the results of that meeting, which we released yesterday in these over a hundred documents that talk in detail how President Obama and his team — he directed a manufactured piece of intelligence that detail not if but how Russia tried to influence the outcome of the United States election that Trump won in November of 2016,” Gabbard said.
Rachel Campos-Duffy pressed Gabbard on whether Obama himself could be facing criminal charges for the alleged “years-long coup” against Trump.
Gabbard said:
Rachel, the seriousness of, again, the implications and the consequences of these actions that were taken demand accountability. The American people not only deserve the truth and accountability, when we look at the future of our country as a democratic Republic and the American people’s ability to have faith that when they go and cast a vote at the ballot box, that the will of the people will be respected by those in government, whether they be Democrats or Republicans. This is literally what is at stake here. So we are referring all of our documents to the Department of Justice for the purpose of accountability and action. No one, no matter who they are, no matter how high up they are or how powerful they may be, no matter the intelligence officials or professionals were who were a part of this treasonous conspiracy, there must be accountability.
The newly-released documents and allegations of a conspiracy dropped as Trump officials have continued facing fallout from a Department of Justice/FBI memo denying the existence of “Epstein Files” that would identify clients of late billionaire Jeffrey Epstein who took part in decades of alleged abuse. Trump himself has called the list a “hoax” while some of his most vocal supporters have demanded more documents be released.
Gabbard said on Saturday it is up to Attorney General Pam Bondi to determine what information from these declassified documents is prosecutable. Bondi herself has been facing backlash among MAGA supporters for previously referencing an Epstein list sitting on her desk in February.
Gabbard compared this alleged “treasonous conspiracy” to the Iraq War when asked whether people will actually see officials charged.
She said:
I’m not a lawyer. We’re referring all of this to the Department of Justice. I know that Attorney General Pam Bondi is committed to bringing about justice to those who have broken the law. And in this case, again, what these documents detail, to me, in my view, cannot be explained as anything but a treasonous conspiracy. This is not so different from what we saw under George W. Bush, when we saw that manufactured intelligence claiming there were weapons of mass destruction in Iraq that kicked off a war that changed our country, that changed the lives of so many people like myself who went and served in those wars.
