University of Oklahoma President: Racist Chant Not ‘Isolated Incident’

University of Oklahoma President David Boren kicked out the campus chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon after video emerged of members chanting some pretty racist things. Boren pledged that the incident would be investigated, and continued to explain what action they’re taking on CNN tonight.

Boren told Wolf Blitzer they can’t just expel the students, they have to “prove that they created a hostile environment” for other students, but he did point out OU students have been suspended before for similar things. He firmly declared a zero tolerance policy on campus for this kind of horrid behavior.

Blitzer asked if he thinks this is an isolated incident. Boren said, “I don’t think it’s an isolated incident… I think it’s far more widespread, and it’s subtle… almost a return to the 1960s.”
