Utah’s Top Cop Says ‘We Have No Idea’ Where Charlie Kirk’s Killer Is

The manhunt for the person who shot and killed Charlie Kirk on Wednesday is ongoing, and officials have indicated they aren’t particularly close to locating the perpetrator.

Kirk was shot in the neck by a sniper who was about 150 yards away as he spoke at Utah Valley University. Police say the shooter fled to a wooded area near campus, where authorities found a high-powered rifle. Officials say they also have a palm print and a shoe print they believe are from the killer.

On Thursday, MSNBC aired a clip from an interview with Commissioner Beau Mason of the Utah Department of Public Safety.

“I know you can’t say too much here, but is it your understanding that this individual may be close by or still in Utah?” the reporter asked.

“We have no idea,” Mason replied. “We’re exploring leads for individuals out of state and individuals that live close by. We literally have persons of interest, tips coming in on the tip line that are spanning far, far and wide.”

In an unusual move on Thursday, FBI Director Kash Patel traveled to Utah to tour the crime scene and visit a local bureau field office. Patel attended a brief press conference where officials released surveillance video of the suspect on the roof from which he shot Kirk. The director did not speak at the presser.

Although a suspect has yet to be apprehended and a motive has not been ascertained, conservatives are blaming liberals’ political rhetoric for the shooting. In a four-minute message posted on Wednesday night, President Donald Trump slammed the “radical left,” which he said is “directly responsible” for Kirk’s death.
