Van Susteren Battles Kristol on Immigration: Senate ‘Did This One Year Ago’
Fox News anchor Greta van Susteren battled Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol on This Week Sunday morning over whether the House of Representatives had adequately addressed the border crisis. Kristol argued that they passed (eventually) a bill Friday night, but van Susteren countered that this was only after a year of ignoring the Senate’s comprehensive immigration reform bill.
“You know what the Senate would say?” Van Susteren asked after Kristol praised the House’s actions. “The Senate would say we did that a year ago.”
“The Senate bill does not deal with the actual border crisis, whether you like comprehensive immigration reform or not,” Kristol said, talking over Susteren. “The House passed legislation that deals with the border crisis and addresses the executive orders.”
“There is a huge problem here, and the people who are in charge of solving it are the president, the House, and the Senate, and they oughta all get back to Washington and do their job,” van Susteren said.
“The House passed legislation and the Senate didn’t,” Kristol objected.
Van Susteren eventually called on Obama to take leadership on the issue, to which Representative Joaquin Castro (D-TX) said, “The president has been trying to work with the Congress the last two years to pass comprehensive immigration reform.”
