Wasserman Schultz Doesn’t Answer Question About Bernie Sanders’ Electability

CNN’s Dana Bash grilled DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz Sunday morning on whether the Democratic Party’s chances of keeping the White House in 2016 would be diminished if Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) won the party’s nomination.

In particular, Bash asked if the fact that Sanders identifies as a socialist would drive some voters away from voting Democratic in 2016. Wasserman Schultz did not specifically answer the question, and instead focused her response on the GOP.

“Any one of our candidates on that stage on Tuesday night … is in dramatic contrast to any of the Republican circus candidates — circus performers — that are on the other side,” Wasserman Schultz said, highlighting causes that Democrats support.

Pressed further by Bash on whether Sanders could top any of the Republican candidates, Wasserman Schultz insisted that all of the Democratic Party’s hopefuls “will stand in stark contrast” with the GOP, and said she is confident that a Democrat will be elected president in 2016, regardless of who wins the party’s nomination.
