Watch a Young Jon Hamm Fail Miserably on ’90s Dating Show

Jon Hamm hasn’t always been the smooth-talking ladies man who play Don Draper on Mad Men. Back in the ’90s, when he was just a struggling actor looking for more screen time, Hamm appeared as a contestant on The Big Date, hosted by Mark L. Wahlberg (not to be confused with Mark Wahlberg, who back then was still better known as Marky Mark). As you can see in the video below, unearthed by Vulture, Hamm didn’t make it past the first round.

When it’s his turn to seduce the female contestant with his idea of a perfect date, all he can come up with is “fabulous food, a little fabulous conversation, and end it with a fabulous foot massage for an evening of total fabulosity.” When the woman ultimately passes Hamm over, she reveals it’s because he and the other loser didn’t shake her hand and say hello when they came on stage.
