WATCH: CNN’s Blitzer, Cooper, Cuomo Trash Ron Burgundy in Anchorman 2 Promo

The Anchorman 2 promotional mega-blitz rolls on this week, and now the film is collaborating with some of CNN’s biggest names. A new documentary-style video produced by Funny or Die features dead-pan delivery from Wolf Blitzer, Anderson Cooper and Chris Cuomo about their supposed decades-long rivalries with Will Ferrell’s new anchor Ron Burgundy.
It would be one thing if the video only appeared on Funny or Die’s website (of which Ferrell is a founder, along with Anchorman director Adam McKay), but it also appears on a CNN.com microsite, along with shorter clips from the same shoot. While the piece is undoubtedly “sponsored content” for the film, it has a cross-promotional feel in which CNN also benefits. Have Blitzer, Cooper and Cuomo ever looked more with it than when they are discussing the “legend” of Ron Burgundy.
The long version of the video is more than worth a watch just to see the typically serious anchors go outside their comfort zones. Cuomo calls Burgundy “a bit an asshole” and Blitzer says he’s a “major prick,” and that’s only within the first 20 seconds.
But the real gem of the piece is this “archival” photo of Burgundy and Blitzer coming up together in the 1970s, with one man’s mustache clearly winning the day:

“I love my beard,” Blitzer says. “But I would trade it for Burgundy’s mustache in a heartbeat.”
