Watch: Seth Meyers Tackles ‘Incredibly Rigorous’ Refugee Vetting Process

Late Night host Seth Meyers took on the contentious debate surrounding the United States accepting Syrian refugees in the wake of last week’s deadly Paris attacks. “You can’t legally ban someone from a city or state,” Meyers said. He continued “Otherwise Justin Bieber would’ve been banned from Miami years ago.”

Meyers noted, “According to the Migration Policy Institute since 2001 the United States has resettled 781,000 refugees and out of all of those the total number that have been arrested for planning terrorist activities has been three.” He then joked, “There are more arrests in the parking lot of an Eagles game.”

Meyers then hilariously skewers Texas Senator Ted Cruz for the seeming hypocrisy of how his own father’s journey as a Cuban immigrant differs from the plight of the Syrian refugees. A clip from MSNBC’s All In With Chris Hayes shows the lengths to which immigration officials work to properly vet incoming refugees, which Meyers equates with the steps necessary to build an IKEA armoire. Finally, the host then had some fun at the expense of Dr. Ben Carson and his apparent dislike for New England.
