The New York law firm behind the infamous #DeflateGate report that led to Tom Brady‘s four-game suspension is hosting a fundraiser for Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton on Thursday.
According to WMUR, Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP is hosting the fundraiser for Clinton’s presidential campaign late Thursday. The cost is $2,700 a person, so it won’t be a cheap date by any means.
A partner at the firm, as well as the co-chair of its litigation department, Ted Wells authored the “Wells Report.” His third-party investigation, which was funded by the NFL and commissioner Roger Goodell, was cited as evidence for suspending the New England Patriots for four games in the 2015-2016 season. Brady’s appeal was initially rejected, though a federal judge later overturned it.
Clinton has never spoken out for or against the Wells Report, Brady’s resulting suspension, or any other #DeflateGate-related matters. However, considering the former New York senator’s ties to the city and the state, the law firm’s financial support of her campaign makes sense.
No word yet on how Patriots fans will react to the fundraiser. Then again, Clinton is an adopted Yankee, so New Englanders probably didn’t like her anyways.
