‘What You Just Said Is False’: Ted Cruz Rips Kaitlan Collins for Claiming ‘We Don’t Have a Motive Yet’ For Charlie Kirk Murder

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) tore into CNN host Kaitlan Collins and accused her of spreading misinformation on Tuesday after she claimed “we don’t have a motive yet” for the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

During an interview with Cruz on The Source about Kirk’s assassination at Utah Valley University last week, Collins claimed, “We don’t have a motive yet. We don’t know yet, we’re waiting.”

“Of course we know. Come on,” replied Cruz. “We don’t have a motive yet? Really? Really, that’s CNN’s position? He just happened to fire the gun in celebration. You can’t tell the motive here?”

Collins insisted, “Senator, that’s not what I said, and I said law enforcement hasn’t laid out a direct motive. They’ve laid out a lot of evidence here of these messages.”

“Actually, they have,” interrupted Cruz. “They’ve said that he was a left-wing activist who hated Charlie Kirk.”

“Senator, with all due respect, you know exactly what I’m saying,” said Collins. “I’m not arguing with you politically, I’m saying that law enforcement has not put a specific motive.”

Cruz laughed before replying, “They have. That statement is false. What you just said is false. What you just said is false, Kaitlan.”

“You just said law enforcement has not laid out a motive. That is objectively false. That is objectively false,” he continued as the two talked over each other. “What you are saying is objectively false, and CNN should not be engaged in misinformation.”

“It’s not misinformation, senator,” Collins concluded.

Following a several-day manhunt last week, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson was named as the suspect in the assassination of Kirk at Utah Valley University.

According to officials, Robinson was reportedly in a relationship with his transgender roommate at the time of the shooting and had recently become interested in “pro-gay and trans rights” and left-wing politics.

Robinson had also reportedly accused Kirk of spreading “hate,” and allegedly told his partner, “I had enough of his hatred. Some hate can’t be negotiated out.”

“It’s very clear to us and to the investigators that this was a person who was deeply indoctrinated with leftist ideology,” said Utah Gov. Spencer Cox.

Bullet casings in the alleged murder weapon were reportedly etched with several anti-fascist slogans, including, “Hey fascist! Catch!” and the lyrics to the Italian anti-fascist song “Bella Ciao.”
