Whoopi Goldberg Says Biden ‘Does Not Believe in Abortion’ Personally: ‘He’s a Roman Catholic’
Whoopi Goldberg claimed President Joe Biden does not personally “believe in abortion” Thursday, as she cited his Catholic faith.
The ladies of The View continued their conversation about a draft order written by Associate Justice Samuel Alito. The document was leaked, it implies the Supreme Court could be poised to overturn Roe v. Wade this summer.
The news has further divided the right and left over the issue of abortion. Those in favor of a woman’s right to choose to terminate a pregnancy contend overturning the landmark 1973 ruling will infringe on their rights.
Pro-life activists contend that the longstanding federal ruling denies unborn children the basic right to life.
Biden has been critical of the leaked memo. On Tuesday, he called the purported coming ruling “radical.”
On Thursday’s The View, Goldberg said she did not believe Biden supports abortion.
Guest co-host Lindsey Granger argued overturning Roe v. Wade has been something conservatives have planned for four decades. Thus, per Granger, “MAGA” can not be blamed if the issue of abortion is turned over to the states.
“So religious conservatives have been planning this for 40 years, not the MAGA crowd,” she said. “MAGA didn’t exist 40 years ago. You know, maybe you called it the Tea Party then, ten years ago.”
Granger invoked Sen. Jon Tester (D-MT) as being among those who have said they do not know how Biden personally feels about abortion.
Goldberg interrupted Granger and claimed Biden is against terminating pregnancies.
“We do know where Biden stands,” she said. “He is a Roman Catholic. He does not believe in abortion.”
She added Biden speaks in support of abortion rights because he is “governing as the president” of the “whole United States.”
“That’s where he stands, that’s where a lot of folks stand and that’s okay,” Goldberg said.
Biden was denied communion at a church in 2019, before he was president, due to his support for abortion.
