‘Wow’: GOP Senator Floored by Axios Report on Voters Pushing ‘Violence’ and ‘Blood’ From Democrats in Trump Fight
Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) reacted with disbelief to a report on Democratic voters demanding their lawmakers be willing to “get shot” in their resistance efforts against President Donald Trump.
Mullin joined Fox News’ America’s Newsroom on Tuesday, where he reacted to the Monday Axios report. The outlet interviewed more than two dozen Democratic lawmakers for their report, most of whom stayed anonymous so they could speak candidly.
“Some of them have suggested … what we really need to do is be willing to get shot” when visiting ICE facilities, one House Democrat told Axios.
Another lawmaker said, “Our own base is telling us that what we’re doing is not good enough … [that] there needs to be blood to grab the attention of the press and the public.”
The Democrats who spoke to the outlet argued their voters have told them in town halls and meetings that they are not satisfied with the party’s efforts to push back against Trump’s agenda.
We’ve got people who are desperately wanting us to do something … no matter what we say, they want [more],” Rep. Brad Schneider (D-IL), the chair of the New Democrat Coalition, said.
“Wow. Wow,” Mullin said as Dana Perino read him some of the quotes from the report.
The senator said he hoped the Axios report was “just a false story,” though Perino noted later there has been no pushback to the claims in the report.
“I would hope that that is just a false story that Axios is putting out there that there was actually not an elected leader that would actually say that. Unfortunately, I believe it probably is true. No, I have not heard one person condemning that. That enough, Dana, should scare the living daylights out of you,” Mullin said.
The senator then made a pitch for Trump’s efforts on mass deportations and bringing down crossings at the southern border.
“They want to make sure that we have law and order back in our streets, and that’s what President Trump is delivering for the American people. And yet the Democrat Party is pushing back on it. And these are the same people they allowed to come across our southern border. What did they think was going to happen? They own this. This is their fault. This is their responsibility,” he said.
Before wrapping up the interview, Perino noted, “I just want to be clear, I mean, Axios put that out there yesterday, there was no other pushback and we had it on The Five as well. So, they’re not making it up.”
“No, I know, but I hope — I would hope they are, but I believe they’re right,” Mullin responded. “It just is sickening that any Democrat leader would ever say that.”
