NBC News reporter Miguel Almaguer announced on Instagram that he is no longer with the network.

Almaguer, an Emmy Award-winning journalist who also won the Edward R. Murrow award, worked for NBC News for 18 years. His reporting was featured on several NBC programs including NBC Nightly News and Today. He wrote:

Seen a lot. Done a lot. Learned a lot. Thankful for my nearly 2 decade long run at NBC News. But more than anything grateful for those in the trenches with me. With them it was more an adventure than work. Change is hard and goodbyes aren’t easy. But turning the page is exciting. In news … I love a great last line. This one is still being written.

In an internal memo obtained by Mediaite, NBC confirmed Almaguer’s departure:

Miguel has been a valued member of our newsgathering team, traveling around the country and the globe to cover many of the biggest stories. He’s earned honors and recognition for his intrepid reporting, including an Edward R. Murrow award and an Emmy. He has been a mainstay across NBC Nightly News, TODAY, MSNBC and NBC News NOW.

Miguel would like to share this message with you:

I am so grateful for the opportunity to have worked at NBC News for the last 18 years. It’s been a privilege to tell some of the world’s most important stories. I am especially thankful and indebted to each one of you — my colleagues, true professionals who worked so tirelessly by my side in the trenches. NBC News is home to some of the very best in the business who I will deeply miss. Being at NBC News has granted me a front-row seat to history, and it has been a profound honor.

In late 2022, Almaguer was suspended over his reporting on the attack of Paul Pelosi, husband of Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), who was Speaker of the House at the time. Almaguer’s segment, which originally aired on Today, raised questions about what happened between Pelosi and his assailant. It fueled right-wing conspiracy theories about the attack, before being deleted from NBC’s web site, with an editor’s note attached to the report: “The piece should not have aired because it did not meet NBC News reporting standards.” The outlet said the source for the information that Almaguer reported was deemed unreliable.
