Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) confirmed that she is engaged to her longtime partner Riley Roberts on Thursday.

“It’s true! Thank you all for the well wishes,” she wrote in a Thursday tweet, linking to an Insider article.

In a statement to the outlet, Ocasio-Cortez shared that the two got engaged in Puerto Rico last month and are now “taking some time to savor” the moment before planning their wedding.

Speculation surrounding their engagement began when people started to notice that Ocasio-Cortez had been wearing what appeared to be an engagement ring.

“Earlier today [The Hill’s] photog Greg Nash captured [Ocasio-Cortez] sporting some bling on her ring finger,” tweeter reporter Judy Kurtz.

Instagram users also noted that the representative was wearing the same ring in her last two Instagram Stories.

Ocasio-Cortez and Roberts first started dating while they were both students at Boston University. The couple met in 2011 when they both joined a Boston University debate group named “Coffee and Conversation.”

While Roberts has managed to stay out of the public eye, he was prominently featured in Netflix’s 2018 documentary Knock Down the House, which tracked four insurgent candidates who challenged powerful incumbents in Congress.

“Everything from the emotional to the strategic to the practical, he has been a really important partner to her,” said documentary filmmaker Rachel Lears.
