Conservative author Ann Coulter sparked intense backlash when she tweeted “I want him as my president” in reference to Kyle Rittenhouse, the man accused of murdering two protesters in Kenosha, Wisconsin during unrest over the police killing of Jacob Blake.
On Wednesday night, Coulter retweeted a tweet that said “I want Kyle Rittenhouse as my bodyguard,” and added her own comment: “I want him as my president.”

Rittenhouse has been arrested and charged with the murders of two people during the unrest in Kenosha.
Coulter then became a top trending topic on Twitter overnight, which may have been the point, and received some intense backlash, including from blue-checks.
This is pure evil. https://t.co/L3HrvBGVFf

.@billmaher Not that I expect you to listen to me or care, but @AnnCoulter publicly declared that she’d like murderer #KyleRittenhouse as her president.
Having her on may bring you huge ratings, but giving her a platform is dangerous…for black people. #BlackLivesMatter https://t.co/jEjZB1w7Qp

I know Ann Coulter is a provocateur, I know she says horrific things just to get attention, but this is a big deal. Open celebration of militia members murdering unarmed protesters. It’s hard to put into words just how bad this is. pic.twitter.com/6xrXPVBebB

Ann Coulter praises the white teenager who murdered peaceful black protestors. This should be a crime in and of itself. Coulter is so hateful.

Dear Ann Coulter,
Your current president kills far more people than a 17-year-old white nationalist with an AR-15.
Also, this is sick and disgusting, even for you. pic.twitter.com/Hfx4d6aIn7

Rittenhouse’s social media posts show him to be a strong supporter of President Donald Trump, including a video he posted of himself from the front row of a Trump rally in Iowa back in January.
