‘Bizarre!’ MSNBC Crew Roasts Trump Lawyer Alina Habba — Courtroom Rant Was ‘Audition For Fox News’
MSNBC host Ari Melber and his experts roasted Trump attorney Alina Habba over her “bizarre” presentation at former President Donald Trump’s fraud trial — which they said was an audition for Fox News.
The trial in the fraud case brought by Attorney General Letitia James (D) and presided over by Judge Arthur Engoron concluded with closing arguments on Thursday — and lots of unexpected fireworks. Trump was initially forbidden to speak in court after his lawyers refused to agree to restrictions, but Engoron relented — and Trump pounced in court.
And although she got less attention than her client, Habba also went in guns blazing.
On Thursday night’s edition of MSNBC’s The Beat with Ari Melber, Melber asked former SDNY Criminal Division Deputy Chief Kristy Greenberg for her take on the “bizarre” closing by Habba:
KRISTY GREENBERG: It was an interesting day for sure. Um, I think, uh, in the morning, some of the defense arguments. The first lawyer went up, Mr. Kise, you know, other than throwing in, you know, the sort of, uh, statements for the audience of one, Donald Trump, about what a genius he was. We should give him a medal. Otherwise he did stick to legal arguments. And let me.
ARI MELBER: Just slow you down. Yeah. Um, do you get a medal in a fraud trial? Is that part of it? (laughter) Just so we know.
KRISTY GREENBERG: I mean, I don’t think there are any medals for anyone in, uh, in this trial. It’s 44 days of just, uh, you know, just a slugfest for sure. Um, but he, uh. Yeah, I mean, he did a serviceable job. And then you’ve got Alina Habba, who came up and, you know, guns blazing. I don’t know, she was either. It was an audition for maybe to be an anchor on Fox News or the attorney general in a Trump administration there. You know, I don’t know that there’s going to be much of a distinction without a difference, uh, if he’s elected. But it was, you know, a lot of bombast, a lot of, you know, like yelling. It was, uh, it was very, it was shocking to see!
ARI MELBER: Yeah.
KRISTY GREENBERG: You know, at one point she turned to the judge and says, have you ever made a mistake in, like, pointing at him about the about the apartment in the.
ARI MELBER: Yeah bizarre!
KRISTY GREENBERG: …apartment? Yeah, just really bizarre and not something you’d expect in a trial. And this idea that she kept focusing on that apartment, the tripling of the size as being just her favorite topic, she said. And she also said, well, you know, it’s just a mistake. People make mistakes. That’s what happens. And that’s clearly not the case here.
