IDF Confirms Iran Just Launched ‘Suicide’ Drone Attack On Israel

The Israeli Defense Forces confirmed that Iran has launched a barrage of drones towards Israel on Saturday, setting up for a direct military conflict between the two nations.

Reports first came from Iranian television but the IDF soon confirmed the launch, and the United States as well a short time later.

“A short while ago, Iran launched UAVs from within its territory toward Israel,” said an IDF statement released on X, Telegram, and other social media channels. “The IDF is on high alert and is constantly monitoring the operational situation.”

Israeli military spokesman Daniel Hagari released a statement claiming the country “is on high alert and is constantly monitoring the operational situation.”

The reported attack is believed to be in response to an Israeli airstrike on a Iranian consulate building in Syria earlier this month, which killed seven Revolutionary guard officers, including a general. Biden officials have publicly stated the U.S. would fully back Israel if Iran launched a military strike.

Fox News correspondent Trey Yingst was live on air to when the confirmation came through and offered some explanation and context.

Hagari noted that Iran’s “suicide drones” are currently passing through Iraq, claiming it wil take hours for the drones to reach Israel. He added that GPS jamming and other measures to deter the drones are already in place.

Per WSJ:

Tensions between Israel and Iran have increased markedly since Hamas attacked Israel on Oct. 7 last year, killing roughly 1,200 people. Since then, Israel’s military response has included killing numerous high-ranking Iranian commanders, as well as commanders of Hamas—which Iran funds and arms—through airstrikes.

The April 1 bombing, though, was seen as extremely provocative because it hit a diplomatic facility and constituted one of the most high-level killings of an Iranian official in decades.

Israel has braced for an Iranian response ever since. Israel on Saturday updated its emergency guidelines for civilians for the first time since the Damascus strike. Israel closed schools across the country until Tuesday and limited gathering sizes, although antigovernment protesters congregated in Tel Aviv on Saturday evening.
