Daily Wire CEO Says He and Ben Shapiro ‘Would Not Fire’ Candace Owens Because She’s ‘Paid to Give Her Opinion’

The Daily Wire co-CEO Jeremy Boreing said that neither he nor editor emeritus Ben Shapiro “would fire” Candace Owens for remarks characterized by many as anti-Semitic amid her very public feud with Shapiro.

Shapiro called Owens’s “faux sophistication” on the war between Israel and Hamas “disgraceful” earlier this week after Owens falsely accused the Israeli government of committing genocide in the Gaza Strip and forcing Muslims in Jerusalem to live in a ghetto.

Owens responded by posting a Bible verse accompanied by the caption, “You cannot serve both God and money” on X. At that point, Shapiro reminded her that she could cease taking a paycheck from The Daily Wire at any time.

Owens then appeared on Tucker Carlson’s social media show, where she said there was “a lot of misunderstanding about Ben’s involvement” after being asked if he was her boss.

“He’s not the CEO of The Daily Wire. He is not making day-to-day decisions at The Daily Wire,” she said of Shapiro. “And I do want to make it very clear, because people are like, ‘How could you possibly see stay at The Daily Wire after this? I have a very good relationship with the co-CEOs at The Daily Wire. Especially right now, the acting CEO is Caleb Robinson. He’s a wonderful person, he’s worked very hard to be where he’s at. We have a lot in common that we connect on.”

On Friday night, Boreing said that while he was on leave and could not fire Owens if he wanted to, he would not do so anyway.

“I am currently on a leave of absence from my executive duties @realdailywire while overseas producing #thependragoncycle. In my current capacity, I cannot fire Candace Owens. That’s something Ben and I have in common since he is also not an executive in the company and cannot hire or fire people,” wrote Boreing on X. “But even if we could, we would not fire Candace because of another thing we have in common – a desire not to regulate the speech of our hosts, even when we disagree with them. Candace is paid to give her opinion, not mine or Ben’s. Unless those opinions run afoul of the law or she violates the terms of her contract in some way, her job is secure and she is welcome at Daily Wire.”
