Trump Coughs Up Massive $91 Million-Plus Bond For E. Jean Carroll Appeal

Former President Donald Trump has posted a massive $91.6 million bond in order to proceed with his appeal of the bombshell judgment he owes E. Jean Carroll — the woman he has been found liable for sexually abusing and defaming.
Trump has been trying to delay or reduce payment of the New York state fraud judgment that could cost him in excess of $460 million if appeals are unsuccessful, as well as the $83.3 million judgment Trump owes for defaming E. Jean Carroll while he was president.
But on Friday, Trump posted the bond for his appeal in the defamation case, according to CNN:
Former President Donald Trump has posted a $91.6 million bond as he appeals the judgment against him in the E. Jean Carroll defamation case.
The notice of Trump’s bond and appeal was made with the federal court in New York on Friday.
In January, a federal jury awarded Carroll $83.3 million in damages as a result of Trump’s defamatory statements denying he raped her, saying she wasn’t his type, and accusing her of making up the allegation to boost sales of her book.
Trump will try to have the award reduced or eliminated on appeal.
Critics of Trump have speculated that he is unable to afford the bonds to appeal the judgments against him, and New York Attorney General Letitia James has taken to taunting Trump about seizing his buildings and about mounting interest on his judgment.
“We are prepared to make sure that the judgment is paid to New Yorkers, and yes, I look at 40 Wall Street each and every day,” James said in an interview.
Despite the speculation, Trump attorney Alina Habba has insisted that Trump has more than enough cash to meet the obligations. She told Fox News “he happens to have a lot of cash” and that “there will be no mayhem for the Trump Organization. Unfortunately. I know that probably was Miss James’s goal and Judge Engoron, but that is not going to be the case.”
