Trump to Sit Down With Fox’s Bret Baier for First Time Since June Interview Which He Called ‘Nasty’ and ‘Unfriendly’

As expected, former President Donald Trump won’t be at CNN’s upcoming Republican primary debate on January 10, but he will still get major airtime that night at a Fox News town hall.
Trump will be questioned by Fox News anchors Martha MacCallum and Bret Baier, — the latter of whom sat down with Trump in June for an interview the former “nasty” and “really unfriendly.” Baier told Women’s Wear Daily at the time that Trump privately praised how the conversation was conducted, then expressed public dissatisfaction with it. After the sit-down with Baier, Trump called Fox News a “hostile network” and has repeatedly slammed the channel on social media.
One reason Trump may have had a change of heart after his sit-down with Baier was the fact that he may have provided Special Counsel Jack Smith some ammunition in his federal case concerning Trump’s mishandling of classified documents. Fox News’ Brit Hume called Trump’s explanation of why he was holding on to the documents “incoherent” while conservative commentator Erick Erickson stated that the ex-president “all but admitted to a felony.” Trump has pleaded not guilty to all 37 criminal counts against him in this case.
MacCallum, host of Fox News’ The Story, co-moderated a previous Trump town hall with Baier in May 2020. In a press release announcing the upcoming program, Fox News noted that “Baier and MacCallum moderated the first Republican presidential primary debate in Milwaukee which delivered 13 million viewers and has been the most-watched debate of the 2024 cycle.”
The next Fox News town hall with Trump will air on Wednesday, January 10 at 9:00 PM ET, pre-empting Hannity and airing at the same time as CNN’s Republican primary debate, which will take place at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa with co-moderators Jake Tapper and Dana Bash. Both events come right before the Iowa caucuses on January 15.
The following CNN debate will take place on Sunday, January 21 at New Hampshire’s New England College, hopefully not to their surprise.
