Voter Tells NBC’s Welker If Trump Is Nominee ‘I Will Vote For Biden Even If He Was Dead — And I’m a Republican!’
A swing state voter told Meet the Press host Kristen Welker that if ex-President Donald Trump is the GOP nominee, he’ll vote for President Joe Biden “even if he was dead — and I’m a Republican!”
Two dominant themes of the polling for 2024 presidential general election have been concerns about Biden’s age (as well as Trump’s, which has received less attention) and Trump’s fitness for office on a number of counts. Combined, they form the narrative that voters are dissatisfied with the two choices — although neither of them has a significant rival in primary polls.
On Friday’s edition of the streaming-only Meet the Press NOW, Welker played clips from a Republican-heavy focus group of Pennsylvania voters, and asked them if they’re dissatisfied enough to stay home if Trump and Biden are the choices.
Only one said she might stay home, and the ones who identified who they’d vote for said it would be Biden — one saying he’d vote for the president “even if he was dead”:
KRISTEN WELKER: Is there any chance that any of you sit home on Election Day?
SAMANTHA: There is a chance. Yeah, I.
KRISTEN WELKER: What would make you come out to vote? What will be the deciding factor?
SAMANTHA: I mean, honestly, I feel if it’s Biden versus Trump, I’m I don’t know if there’s anything that could make me come out and vote that day, which I know is, like, really upset. It’s upsetting because it’s something that, you know, is a privilege for me to have. I just don’t want to have my vote count in a way of someone that, of both people I don’t really support wholeheartedly is really what it comes down to. I don’t think I would.
KRISTEN WELKER: Is there any chance you would stay at home on Election Day?
AL: No. I love American democracy too much that Biden and Trump. If it’s a Biden and Trump race and I would vote for Biden even if he was dead.
SCOTT: No chance I’d stay home, I’ve never missed–
AL: And I’m a Republican, you know.
SCOTT: No chance. I’d say I never miss an Election Day. I certainly am not going to start this go around.
KRISTEN WELKER: Any chance you’d stay at home?
MICHAEL: No way. My daughter needs to see me go in there and pull that lever every time so that she knows to do it when the time comes.
