8 More Nigerian Girls Reportedly Abducted by Boko Haram
Boko Haram, the Islamic militant group that yesterday claimed responsibility for kidnapping over 200 Nigerian schoolgirls, is suspected of seizing eight more girls Monday night, according to authorities.
The girls, aged twelve to fifteen, were taken from a village in Northern Nigeria, and reportedly shuttled away on trucks.
“They were many, and all of them carried guns,” one resident said. “They came in two vehicles painted in army color. They started shooting in our village.”
223 Nigerian schoolgirls were abducted last month, and in a video yesterday a leader for Boko Haram announced plans to sell them as brides. Meanwhile, domestic and international pressure has increased on the Nigerian government to more actively seek the girls’ rescue, especially after the first lady, Patience Jonathan, alleged the kidnappings were a hoax to discredit her husband.
