AG Jeff Sessions: ‘I Do Have Confidence’ in Rod Rosenstein

Attorney General Jeff Sessions appeared in front of a Senate panel on Capitol Hill on Wednesday where he was asked about his confidence in Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein,  the man charged with overseeing the Mueller investigation and frequent target of President Donald Trump.

“Do you agree with me that he is doing a good job?” Sen. Lindsey Graham asked, referring to the Deputy AG, who took on the role overseeing the Russian probe after Sessions’ recusal and now faces widespread speculation he may be fired by POTUS.

“He works every day to do the job that he is called upon to do,” Sessions replied. “I do have confidence in him.”

“I do too,” Graham added, before moving on to a question about Gitmo.

Yet, while Sessions was willing to express his confidence in Rosenstein, he fell short of saying he would resign if Trump tried to fire the Deputy AG to stop the Mueller probe.

When Sen. Patrick Leahy asked if he would indeed call it quits during the same panel, Sessions refused to make a promise.

“That calls for a speculative answer,” Sessions opined. “I’m just not able to do that.”
