April Ryan Confronts Sarah Sanders Over Trump ‘Treason’ Comments: ‘What Is So Un-American?’

During today’s press briefing, April Ryan confronted Sarah Huckabee Sanders over President Trump‘s “treason” comments about the Democrats yesterday, after Huckabee Sanders insisted he was joking.

Ryan said that the other party sitting while the President’s party claps is how it works at every State of the Union, and she asked, “What is so un-American about this?”

Huckabee Sanders said it’s “un-American not to be excited about the fact that more people in this country have jobs” and higher wages now.

Ryan noted how Trump specifically referenced black unemployment figures before getting around to those comments and they went back and forth on that before Huckabee Sanders moved on.

There was a weird moment at the end of the briefing when someone shouted a reference to, um, #PieGate. (In case you need a refresher, check here.)

See, at the start of the briefing, Huckabee Sanders read a letter from an 11-year-old named Natalie who said she would love to cook for the First Family. Natalie apparently enclosed pictures, and Huckabee Sanders said the President is accepting the invite.

So at the end of the briefing, someone in the room shouted, as Huckabee Sanders was heading out, to ask if the pictures had been verified by Ryan, a reference to that pie spat from a few months ago.

The cameras did capture Ryan’s rather stunned response to the weird moment. You can watch above, via C-SPAN 3.
