April Ryan, Sarah Sanders Have Tense Face Off Over Porter: ‘You Purposefully Didn’t Give Us the Information’
April Ryan and Sarah Huckabee Sanders had a new tête-à-tête on Tuesday as the Trump White House continues to deal with the firestorm surrounding Rob Porter‘s domestic abuse scandal.
Throughout her Tuesday briefing, the press secretary stonewalled her way through numerous questions about Porter, particularly the ones about FBI Director Christopher Wray contradicting the White House’s timeline in the lead-up to the controversy. Ryan joined the fray when she got a chance to ask Sanders if the White House plans on holding an internal review to see if they ought to let go of any more staffers with interim security clearance.
“My understanding is that has been ongoing for a while,” Sanders answered, “and that determination would be made outside of anything I can walk you through at this point.”
Ryan followed up with questions about the Violence Against Women Act, saying that Director of the Office of Management and Budget Mick Mulvaney wouldn’t elaborate on how much investigative funding it would receive in the government’s new budget. Sanders dismissed this inquiry by saying “you probably didn’t ask those questions,” which prompted Ryan to snap back “you purposefully didn’t give us the information.”
