Arrest Warrant Issued for Ukrainian Ex-President for ‘Mass Murder’ Charges
Things just went from bad to worse for newly-former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych, as Ukraine’s acting government issued a warrant for his arrest on the charges of “mass murder.”
“An official case for the mass murder of peaceful citizens has been opened,” Arsen Avakov, the acting interior minister, wrote on his official Facebook page on Monday. “Yanukovych and other people responsible for this have been declared wanted.”
Yanukovych was removed from power by parliament on Saturday after three months of protests over his allegiance to Russia as opposed to the European Union; protests metastasized over the past couple of weeks, leading to violent clashes between protestors in Kiev’s Independence Square and riot police.
Yanukovych has been in hiding since fleeing his compound last week.
