Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s Incredibly Bizarre Tweet About ‘Forty Acres and a Mule’
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution‘s social media manager has some explaining to do.
On Wednesday afternoon, the newspaper’s official Twitter account blasted out a link to a story about a man winning the lottery, accompanied with a caption about “40 acres and a mule.”
According to reports, a man named Willie Lynch won the Georgia Lottery’s $1 million prize. The AJC article itself mentions nothing of Lynch’s race, yet the paper’s official Twitter account made a bizarre reference to the promises of post-slavery land redistribution in America:

In case you can’t read that, it says: “$1M GA Lottery winner Willie Lynch can get 40 acres and a whole lotta mules.”
The tweet was deleted shortly after its posting. AJC has yet to comment, but we will update if and when they do.
UPDATE: The newspaper apologized, via Twitter:
The AJC apologizes for & deeply regrets the tweet that was posted earlier today. We are working to address this situation internally.
