Aww of the Day: An Officer Needed a Kidney, So the Sheriff’s Deputy Stepped Up

‘Tis the season for heartwarming stories.

According to ABC News, two sheriff’s deputies in Los Angeles, Kevin Ay and Darrin Offringa, have been friends ever since Offringa supervised Ay in the months before Ay took Offringa’s old beat.

When Ay was diagnosed with kidney failure, the two realized that they share a blood type and you can guess what happened next. Offringa offered his kidney to Ay, who initially felt hesitant but eventually agreed. After a successful evaluation, Offringa’s organ was removed on November 29.

Ay said, “I always considered Darrin as a mentor; now he’s my brother.”

Offringa, on the other hand, is being humble. He simply stated, “I’m just honored and humbled by the experience and to have helped a good friend.”
