John Boehner Admits Defeat: ‘We Fought the Good Fight, We Just Didn’t Win’

In a radio appearance on Cincinnati’s The Bill Cunningham Show Wednesday afternoon, House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) admitted defeat in the Republican effort to dismantle major aspects of the Affordable Care Act in exchange for keeping the government funding and raising the debt ceiling. “We fought the good fight,” Boehner told conservative host Bill Cunningham, “we just didn’t win.”
Boehner insisted that he’s “doing good” today after Senate leaders struck a deal earlier this afternoon. He said the House Republicans tried to “bring the government down to size” and did their best to “stop Obamacare,” but were ultimately unsuccessful.
The speaker also said he “absolutely” plans to allow the entire House to vote on the Senate bill even if the majority of Republicans plan to vote against it. He said he will “encourage” his members to vote “yes” on the bill tonight and predicted the government will reopen tomorrow.
