Boston U. Professor Under Fire for ‘Problem Population’ Comment About White Men

Saida Grundy was supposed to begin a stint as an African-American Studies professor at Boston University, until the world got a hold of her tweets.

In a series of messages, compiled by The Boston Herald, Grundy made some “racially charged” comments about white men, including:

…calling “white college males” a “problem population,” declaring “white masculinity is THE problem for America’s colleges.” Other tweets stated “Deal with your white (expletive), white people. slavery is a *YALL* thing,” and “Every MLK week I commit myself to not spending a dime in white-owned businesses. And every year I find it nearly impossible.”

On her personal Twitter account (now private), Grundy mentions that she “regularly neglect[s] to codeswitch on this personal account,” referring to the human tendency to use different types of language when talking to different groups of people.

(Grundy, considering your tweets got widely circulated by conservatives — yeah, you totally forgot to codeswitch.)

“While we recognize that Dr. Grundy has the right to hold and express personal opinions, BU does not condone racism or bigotry in any form, and we are offended by such statements,” a BU told the Herald yesterday.
